President of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko promised to sign a decree on ending the so-called antiterrorist operation (ATO) in Donbass and instead begin the Joint Forces Operation (JOF) in the territories beyond Kiev's control in May.

"The date will be in May, as we move on to a new format for protecting the country, we are introducing new measures. We are doing this because we see a sharp increase in the threat in the east and the powder must be kept dry," he said at a meeting with representatives of regional media, answering the question about the exact date of termination of the ATO.

After the return of Donbass to Ukraine's control, much more money will be spent on its restoration than the $50 billion that Ukraine now demands from Russia as damage from the occupation.

"I think that if this happened, and Donbass was in our hands, and the border was closed, it is unlikely that Ukraine would directly engage in the restoration of Donbass," the president of the Center for Economic Development, Poroshenko's advisor Alexander Paskhaver said in a comment to the "Observer" publication.

The economist explained which ways Ukraine could use so that the "economic collapse" did not happen.

According to the publication, over the past three years, Congress has tried to introduce this ban into the law on assistance to Ukraine. But every year this norm was removed from the bill on the eve of voting. But now the parliamentarians have achieved their goal.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the Moscow Conference on International Security on Thursday, that the patrons of the Kiev authorities in the United States and Europe turn a blind eye on attempts to rescind the Minsk Accords and encourage the "warmongers’ party".

"There have been attempts at rescinding the Minsk Accords on settling the internal crisis in Ukraine. The current authorities in Kiev in fact disrupt their implementation. Their sponsors and handlers in the United States and Europe turn a blind eye on this, while at the same time encouraging the party of warmongers in Kiev, which is determined to deal with the Donbass problem from the position of strength," Lavrov said.

Supplies of US weapons to Europe, including to the Baltic States, pursue above all the commercial aims, and don’t contribute to the strengthening of global and European security, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Wednesday.

She said the US president is in no small measure a business person.

"Well, a businessman, selling everything," she noted. "As for supplies of weapons and global security, the US is far away. This is the European continent, and American-made weapons are supplied with the money of Europeans," she added.

Ukraine is expected to collapse in case of an offensive on Donbass, since the West will not provide powerful support. This was stated by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Konstantin Grishchenko, on the air of one of the Ukrainian TV channels. Moreover, the offensive on Donbass is not supported by the West in the face of NATO.

Grishchenko explained that Ukraine is not Kosovo or Croatia.

"You can talk as much as you like about an operation like the Croatian one, but there are no conditions for it. We do not have to rely on fast and powerful support (of the West - ed.)," said the former Foreign Minister of Ukraine.
