The largest Russian Internet company Yandex has decided to close its offices in Kiev and Odessa, said Oсhir Manjikov, director of public relations at Yandex.
"The company "Yandex.Ukraine" is included in the sanctions list and in fact cannot conduct business on the territory of Ukraine. In particular, all accounts of the company are blocked, and we cannot pay salaries to employees," Mandzhikov said.
He added that the employees would be offered to continue working in the company's offices in other countries.
Since May 17, Kiev has expanded the list of sanctions against Russian citizens and organizations, including forbidding Ukrainian users access to Yandex resources. The Security Service of Ukraine carried out searches at the company's offices in Kiev and Odessa within the framework of the "treason" case. The SBU suspects the leadership of Yandex.Ukraine in illegally collecting and transferring personal data of Ukrainians to Russia. The department claims that the information was passed on to Russian special services "for planning, organizing and conducting reconnaissance, sabotage, information-subversive operations to the detriment of the sovereignty of Ukraine."
