In Nikolayev, nationalists of the All-Ukrainian Svoboda union and other right-wing organizations attacked believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and destroyed the foundation for the construction of the future church of Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate, Nikolayev News reports.
According to the local 'activist', the head of the Nikolayev public council Gennady Goncharovsky, the conflict emerged because nationalists opposed the construction of a new Orthodox church, and there allegedly was a corresponding court decision prohibiting the works.
Nationalists broke into the construction site and began to dismantle the foundation. At the same time, Svoboda members and radicals of Sokol ("Falcon") began to insult and beat believers who stood up for the protection of the temple, even elderly women were beaten.
The police hardly ever tried to prevent the mayhem, but later detained several nationalists.
