Nadezhda Savchenko, a deputy of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, said on Thursday that the incumbent Ukrainian government should step down, if Ukraine wanted to settle the Donbass conflict.
If the government in Kiev does not realize that and does not become closer to its own people, then the people will help the authorities to understand that and to step down, Savchenko told TASS after a speech at the Atlantic Council in Washington.
Savchenko did not go into details about her current visit to Washington. But in her speech she noted that she always tried to establish a dialogue, which could lead to concrete results, during her foreign trips.
Asked by a Polish diplomat what she thought of an idea to deliver lethal weapons to Ukraine, Savchenko said that would have been useless given the current level of corruption in Ukraine. Savchenko herself believes that Ukraine should attract western technologies and investments for developing its own gun industry.
