Kremlin: Donbass reintegration bill unacceptable

The draft of the Ukrainian bill on the reintegration of Donbass contradicts the Minsk agreements, and the name of Russia as an aggressor country is unacceptable, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

"As far as we understand, as far as we have information about the yet bill, it is very declarative, there is an article where the Russian Federation is called an aggressor and also there is no mention of the Minsk agreements. Clearly from the legal point of view, of course, this wording de jure, or de facto cannot be acceptable for us," the Kremlin spokesman said.

According to him, "from a legal point of view, of course, this contradicts both the letter and the spirit of the Minsk accords, since there is no such definition in the Minsk agreements."

"The Russian party is a signatory, namely the guarantor of these Minsk agreements," Peskov recalled. He noted that "the president of Ukraine, who also put his signature in Minsk, thereby indicated his consent with this."

"Such a legal contradiction takes place, and we state this," the spokesman for the Russian leader said.

"This bill is purely declarative, also there is another bill that is already following the extension of the special status of Donbass, which is important," the representative of the Kremlin informed. In his opinion, "this is an important bill, because the expiration of the previous law on a special status, of course, caused concern for all."

"The Russian party maintains its commitment to the Minsk accords, still considers them to be an uncontested foundation on the basis of which it is possible at least to continue trying to come up with some ideas for the conflict settlement," Peskov assured.
