International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) president Peter Maurer visited the LPR checkpoint in Stanitsa Luganskaya.
Maurer inspected the checkpoint operation, the damaged bridge across Seversky Donetsk and the warming centre which had been set up with ICRC assistance.
He then met in Lugansk with the LPR envoy to Minsk talks Vladislav Deynego and other LPR officials.
“He (Maurer – Ed.) mentioned that they were ready to launch bridge repairs as soon as the security situation permitted,” Deynego said.
He added, however, that it might take a while as Ukraine was dead set against the disengagement of forces and facilities in the area.
According to Deynego, a number of issues related to ICRC work in LPR were raised at the meeting with Maurer, yet no detailed discussion followed.
“We managed to discuss current ICRC activities in the Republic’s territory; we raised some questions but never got the chance to hear the answers,” the envoy said.
