Donetsk Defense: Weekly Situation Report, 04/21/2017

Good afternoon!

Over the period from April 15 to April 21, the main efforts, undertaken by formations and military units of the People's Militia of the Donetsk People's Republic, were focused on holding training sessions in controlling artillery fire and counter-battery fighting, as well as countering subversive and terrorist threats.

Over the past day, there were registered 38 occasions of ceasefire violations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Heavy artillery, tanks, mortars of various calibres, IFV weapons, anti-aircraft guns, grenade launchers and small arms were used for shelling the Republic’s territory.

Over the past week, there were registered 235 occasions of ceasefire violations by the enemy; 1,445 projectiles and shells were fired at the Republic’s territory with weapons, prohibited by the Minsk accords.

23 Republic’s localities were affected by the AFU fire: Zaitsevo, Gorlovka, Shirokaya Balka, Dolomitnoye, Krutaya Balka, Yasinovataya, Vasylievka, Vesyoloye, Spartak, Zhabichevo, Dokuchayevsk, Nikolayevka, Belaya Kamenka, Kominternovo, Sosnovskoye, Leninskoye, Oktyabr, Sakhanka, Bezymennoye, Dzerzhinskoye, Kulikovo, the area of the Airport, the Petrovsky and Kirovsky districts of Donetsk, in which six houses were damaged.

Losses among the DPR Armed Forces’ servicemen made two killed and five wounded soldiers.

During the week, Ukrainian forces continued bombarding vital facilities with prohibited weapons. For instance, yesterday, on April 20, power transmission line tower having been damaged, five localities near Avdeyevka were cut off electricity. At that, the AFU units are cowardly hiding in the territory of the Avdeyevka coke-processing chemical plant, which is provided with power by its own generators.

I would like to point out that the silence regime and the corridor for repair works on the line they again will not be provided either, as they don’t care about civilians’ life in the conflict zone. All these facts prove the Ukrainian command’s criminal actions against the peaceful population of Donbass, which are carried out with the approval of Ukraine’s military and political authorities.

In addition, yesterday, in the area of Shirokaya Balka village, our observation posts detected an enemy group, numbering up to a section, pushing towards our positions. We were monitoring the situation, at that not opening fire for effect. During the group’s advancement, it tripped a wire in its own mine fields, as a result of which one saboteur got killed and three were wounded. Others, carrying out hasty evacuation of the dead and wounded, opened barrage fire at our positions with small arms, flamethrowers, and grenade launchers.

Initially, yesterday, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry speaker acknowledged one wounded, but this day the very fact of the sabotage group’s existence and its attempt to escape to our positions were completely denied, I quote: "This information is not true."

Then where did the arms, left by the groups, come from?

I would like to dwell separately on the topic of losses among the AFU servicemen. Yesterday Poroshenko said that since the turn of 2017, 69 AFU servicemen have been killed and 420 got wounded in the so-called ‘ATO’ zone, but, once the losses reported by the official representative of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry are counted, it becomes evident that in 2017 the AFU losses have so far made 75 killed and 507 wounded. Six killed and 87 wounded soldiers were left aside. In addition, on April 18, according to official sources, one AFU soldier perished, but 15 wounded were admitted to the Odessa hospital that same day, and six dead bodies were brought to a Dnepropetrovsk morgue. That is, the real losses of April 18 made six killed and 14 wounded?!

What is going on in Ukraine? The President does not report the actual figures of losses? Or is he deliberately underreporting them, fearing of the people of Ukraine? And what if only combat losses are declared officially? Then the number of non-combat losses of the AFU in 2017 alone make over 400 people!

The AFU command continues deploying heavy weapons to the contact line. The absence of heavy weapons at storage sites is recorded daily in the OSCE Mission’s reports. In total, over the past week, the Mission’s representatives noted the absence of the following AFU equipment:

152mm howitzers Akatsiya – 50 units;

152mm howitzers Msta-B – 38 units;

152mm howitzer D-20 – 6 units;

122mm self-propelled artillery mounts Gvozdika – 8 units;

122mm howitzers D-30 – 10 units;

120mm mortars – 26 units;

MLRS BM-21 Grad – 8 units;

tanks – 7 units.

For the past week, the situation on the contact line, as before, remained tense.

We repeatedly reported on the AFU shellings of the Republic’s territory with prohibited weapons.

As a confirmation to this, on April 14, representatives of the OSCE Mission recorded the appearance of a shell crater, which was over three metres deep and over ten metres in diameter, in the close proximity to Leninskoye locality. At that, observers, who had been earlier reported their leader A. Hug to be "the most qualified and equipped with the best equipment for observation and examination", concluded that this crater had developed as a result of a 152mm projectile rupture.

What kind of skills and equipment do we talk about, if even without examinations it is clear that such damages are caused by over-200mm calibre projectiles?

For the record, observers of the OSCE Mission, for some reason, record only the outcomes of strikes (and even then not all of them); moreover, it is equally important that they are to control the withdrawal of weapons in accordance with the reached agreements, which is absolutely ignored by the Ukrainian party.

What is the reason for this? In most cases this is caused by the apparent unwillingness of the Mission to record the presence of prohibited weapons, deliberately deployed by the AFU command mostly in residential areas of Avdeyevka locality.

But the most striking fact is that observers blatantly turn a blind to the AFU units and armament’s being deployed in the territory of a chemically hazardous facility, the Avdeyevka coke-processing plant. The Ukrainian party restricts the Mission representatives’ work, referring to the alleged lack of a mandate to inspect this privately owned object.

Everyone perfectly understands that this is an obvious indicator of the so-called a ‘one-way street’ case. Unlike Ukraine, we do not hide in the territory of critical industrial facilities for conducting provocative shelling of the Republic from there. Even a small accident at such facilities can lead to irreparable consequences of chemical poisoning of people and the environment.

Every time drawing attention to the ongoing violations of the reached armistice agreements by the Ukrainian party, we register the foreign military experts’ arrival at the ‘ATO’ zone. Thus, 300 personnel, who had earlier arrived at the conflict zone were identified by our sources as snipers and subversive instructors, were detected by our reconnaissance in the ‘grey zone.’

At that, some Western states, such as Latvia and Canada, openly state sending their servicemen to Ukraine for these purposes.

But even the arrival of mercenaries at the conflict zone does not solve the problem of the units’ manning.

95% manning level of the units deployed in the so-called ‘ATO’ zone, reported by the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, is very close to the truth. But an amendment should be made to these data: in recent months, due to the lack of volunteers, there is going on recruitment of women for military service by contract basis. They are subsequently appointed not only to the medical officers or record clerks’ units posts, as was customary in the past, but, in most cases, as shooters and machine gunners. At that, most of these ‘recruits’ do not reach the advanced units, settling in the formations’ headquarters, at that receiving ‘combat’ monetary allowances and the ‘ATO’ participants’ ID cards. And those who, after all, find themselves in a regular unit, cause drunken fights with consequent losses.

The military and political leadership of Ukraine, wishing to once again slander our Republic, keeps arranging theatrical performances for journalists. And actors, playing the parts of terrorists shelling the AFU positions, are recruited from The Right Sector units. These staged scenes are valiantly recorded by Ukraine-controlled media and are presented as real ones under the title “Terrorists are shelling Avdeyevka.”

At that, the The Right Sector fighters, in most cases, deliberately put into semblance of hostilities, as they receive additional payments for each case of shelling, in contrast to the AFU, who are now fined at the slightest pretext for expenses for the so-called ‘ATO’ to be reduced.

Money rewards of the AFU and Right Sector fighters cause frequent conflicts between them. As a result, civilian population suffers.

What kind of The Right Sector members’ ideological commitment can be ever mentioned, if they are here only for the purpose of earning money.

I address the AFU commanders of all levels – many of you have criminal cases on the facts of war crimes committed against civilians in Ukraine and Donbass. You don’t need to safeguard The Right Sector fighters, as you will be the scapegoats.

I want to assure the Ukrainian military command that, no matter how hard you try to intimidate us by criminal collusion with the OSCE Mission, statements about your grouping’s strengthening, participation of the Nazis in hostilities and terrorist acts in the territory of our Republic, the result will be the same: any attempt to attack our positions will be rigidly suppressed!

The people and the army are a single whole! Therefore, we are invincible!
