A woman was hospitalized after a fire broke out in an ammunition warehouse in the Vinnitsa region, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reports.
"According to preliminary information, one person was injured. The effected was hospitalized to the Vinnitsa central district hospital in a medium-severity condition," the report said.
Along with that, rescuers extinguished fires in four houses, on which burning ammunition landed.
According to the Department of Emergency Situations of Ukraine, about 30 thousand people were evacuated in the Vinnitsa and Kalinovsky districts of the region. In addition, 180 patients were evacuated from the central district hospital to the city hospitals of Vinnitsa.
Ammunition detonated on Tuesday evening. Residents of the village of Kalinovka and neighbouring villages were evacuated. The police officers of Vinnitsa, Zhytomir and Khmelnitsky regions raised alarm. Ukraine’s Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman, as well as the head of the General Staff of Ukraine, are working at the site. The media reported that the warehouse held missiles for the multiple-launch systems Smerch, Uragan, and Grad. The authorities closed the airspace within a radius of 50 kilometres from the ignition zone.
This is not the first fire at military warehouses in Ukraine over the past week. Earlier, in the Donetsk region on the outskirts of the village near Mariupol, an ammunition store of the AFU caught fire, several explosions occurred. Later, the explosions ceased, local residents were evacuated from nearby houses. The press service of the State Service for Emergency Situations reported on September 23 that the fire has been extinguished.
