Donetsk holds military parade marking 72nd WWII Victory Day anniversary [PHOTOS & VIDEO]
The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the Victory over fascist Germany by a large-scale military parade.
The event took place in the central district of the capital. Seventeen foot parade squads and over fifty units of military hardware walked along the main street.
The legendary Soviet WWII battle tank T-34 led the column of more than 50 units of military hardware, including artillery, anti-aircraft guns and infantry fighting vehicles.
The parade had started off with a march of DPR servicemen, law-enforcement personnel and military college students. An L-29 trainer plane was displayed for the first time.
Over sixty thousand people as participants and viewers took part in the events.
Denis Sinenkov, the DPR Operational Command Chief, Major-General, was in command of the parade. Vladimir Kononov, the Republic’s Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General inspected the parade.
Alexander Zakharchenko, the Head of the DPR and Denis Pushilin, the Chairman of the People’s Council attended the Victory Day celebration.
Honorable places were given to the main heroes of the occasion - the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, "a holiday with tears in their eyes".
