Alexander Zakharchenko took part in the steelmaking production launch at the Yuzovsky Metallurgical Plant (YuMZ) on October 5.
The resumption of the YuMZ's work is a historic event for the entire metallurgical industry of Donbass. The plant has entered into a new life already in the public sector. Owing to the titanic efforts of the team, production was launched in record time.
In 2014, due to the lack of ferrous metals scrap, the enterprise completely stopped production activities and reduced the number of employees. One of the flagships of metallurgy was gradually turned into a heap of scrap metal. When the decision was made to introduce receivership at the YuMZ in 2016, the plant's production facilities were in a deplorable state. According to the employees of the company, after reorganization they were horrified to see the condition their native metal works was in after idle time. In fact, the enterprise had to be rebuilt anew.
And now, after a year and a half, all the shops of the plant have been launched. Expensive equipment of the electric steelmaking furnace was restored, continuous casting machines, "ladle-furnace" installations, and imported spare parts and components to the metallurgical equipment were installed in the main electric steel smelting shop.
In addition to the main workshops, the railway workshop is completely ready for operation: five locomotives have been repaired, which will be transporting YuMZ products. The scrap shop is also ready to receive and recycle scrap metal: nine electric bridge cranes, two Fuchs loading machines and AKROS press-scissors have been repaired.
A whole range of works was carried out to restore the infrastructure and non-production facilities. After the restoration works, equipment adjustment and attestation, the central factory laboratory has become fully operational. On the driveway to the gateway No.8 of the enterprise, the storm sewer repair was completed, underwood was cut in the security zone of the overhead power line from the Chaikino 330 kV substation to the 220 kV outdoor switchgear substation required for launching the main production facilities of the company. The pipeline of drinking water and a compressed air supply system were repaired, the repair of lighting, central heating, and transforming substations was completed.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade prepared a whole documentary devoted to the workers' memories of the efforts taken to launch the YuMZ.
"We are used to celebrating only military victories in the Republic, but today our country is obliged to note this productive victory. What you have done with your own hands and thanks to the loyalty to your native plant can not be called a restoration. You just built it again. Therefore, I believe that we won the battle for the YuMZ, as well as the battles for Debaltsevo, Ilovaysk, and Donetsk. I bow low to you for your work and love for the enterprise. It is the merit of every worker. I also want to express my gratitude to the Minister of Industry and Trade Alexei Granovsky and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Timofeyev. I shall always repeat that I am proud and happy to live in the same land with you!" Alexander Zakharchenko addressed the team.
After the solemn part, the Head of State personally launched a steelmaking machine. Then he received the first metal manufactured by the YuMZ. For one day of work the plant produced 100 tons of square steel billets. Plans call for the enterprise to reach the production capacity of 30-40 thousand tons per month soon. At that, the number of employees will be increased to 1,000 people.
