Ukraine, US express no support for Russian plan on peacekeepers in Donbass

The United States and Ukraine stated that they are not ready to work on the text of the draft resolution on the deployment of the UN security mission in Donbass. According to Vasily Nebenzya, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Ukraine intends to submit an alternative draft resolution.

According to Nebenzya, within the framework of the UN Security Council, this project has already been discussed, and the partners have already responded.

"We offered to work on the text of this project, but the delegations of Ukraine and the United States after the first discussion said that they were not ready to work further on the text," the Permanent Representative said.

"They will have substantial comments, and perhaps Ukrainians will have a counterproject on the issue of deploying a peacekeeping mission in Donbass," Nebenzya added.

He also added that the issue of UN peacekeeping mission deployment in Donbass would be raised at a high-level meeting of the Security Council, during the ministerial week during the session of the General Assembly of the organization.

"I think the topic will, of course, be raised at a meeting of the open-ended Security Council on peacemaking with the participation of Heads of State," Nebenzya said.

The diplomat also added that Russia would be represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
