SBU cryptographer's defection to DPR – the first in modern world's special services history

The documents, provided by the Ukrainian cipher chief who has taken the DPR side will hit the reputation of both the SBU and Ukraine itself. This will lead to a series of high-profile scandalous revelations that will shock absolutely everyone, stated a Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the Natsyonalnaya Oborona (National Defense) magazine, Igor Korotchenko.

"This, of course, will be a blow to the SBU as a special service, because the defection of a cryptographer is an unprecedented event. Especially taking into account the fact that the person has changed side with valuable documents classified as secret. In this case, we can talk about very loud exposures and the publication of a number of secret operations of the SBU. From the standpoint of reputational costs, this will hit the security service of Ukraine and the state as a whole," the expert said.

"Any way, we are expecting very high-profile scandalous exposures, which can shock very many people. The case is unprecedented, the cases when cryptographers would flee can be counted on the fingers of one hand. In the newest history after 1991, this is the first such case in the history of the world's special services," Korotchenko added.
