Russia's envoy to OSCE: Russia's participation in JCCC in Donbass up in air

The further participation of Russia in the work of the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire in Donbass is hanging on a thread because of the unconstructive approach of the Ukrainian side. This was stated on Monday by Russia's Permanent Representative to the OSCE Alexander Lukashevich during the video connection between Moscow and Vienna.

"The anti-Russian positions of the Ukrainian colleagues on the action of the Joint Coordination and Control Center set up on the initiative of the Ukrainian side are very sharp," he said. "In fact, to be honest, it is hanging on a thread in terms of further Russian participation, as Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov  has unequivocally warned of."

"If this line of aggressive behaviour towards our officers, humiliating in many cases, continues, then we have no choice, and this very important and necessary mechanism to support the operation of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and to stabilize the situation can easily go to the past, which I would not want to happen," Lukashevich said.

The decision to establish a Joint Center for the Control and Coordination of the ceasefire and stabilization of the situation (JCCC) was taken at a meeting of Contact Group members in Minsk on October 2, 2014. The JCCC includes representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE, whose task is to coordinate the truce in Donbass, as well as to resolve issues of de-escalation and stabilization of the situation in the region in accordance with the Minsk agreements.
