The Russian Railways (RzhD) have launched a test regular passage of freight trains on the Zhuravka-Millerovo line in the Voronezh and Rostov regions, bypassing Ukraine, the company's official statement says.

"The first freight trains, which passed the temporary operation site, transported cars with grain, iron ore and building materials. The test period is meant to check the railway infrastructure readiness, traffic control systems' operation, and to prepare locomotive brigades."

The date of the passenger train traffic's launch will be reported by RzhD separately.

Earlier, the Russian Railways reported the completed construction and installation works on a new railway line bypassing Ukraine – Zhuravka-Millerovo – and started commissioning and test operation of some sections of the line. Passenger trains are planned to be launched on the line by the end of autumn 2017.
