Another temple’s seizure of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine by radical nationalists is outrageous, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and Supremacy of Law Konstantin Dolgov said.
“Another seizure of the UOC temple of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine by radical nationalists is outrageous. Such, in fact, lawless actions take inveterate form. This even more actualizes the necessity of the reaction from the international human rights organizations!” wrote Dolgov in his microblog in Twitter.
The radicals seized the temple in honor of the first Martyr Stephen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Ternopol region, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.
According to the UOC, in the morning hours the radicals came to the village Kotiuzhyny supposedly to maintain order. At the village general meeting they threatened the believers and demanded to deprive them of the right to pray in the church of the Moscow Patriarchate, which by law belonged to their community, noted the UOC. According to the report, a significant part of the village did not support this idea.
Besides the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, which is a self-governing church of the Moscow Patriarchate, in Ukraine operate also unrecognized by the world Orthodox Church structures, such as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate (UOC-KP) and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC).
