Russian MFA: DPR and LPR leadership recognized by signing Minsk Agreements

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov rejected the accusations brought by the OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier, who had charged Russia with approval of the leadership of the Donbass Republics by a Decree on temporary recognition of the DPR and LPR documents adopted by the Russian President.

Lavrov stated this at a press conference after talks with his Swedish counterpart Margot Wallstrom.

“I want to explain to Mr. Zannier and everyone complaining about the alleged violations of international law, that the the Republics’ leaders were recognized by signing the Minsk Agreements, which had been approved in due time by the consensus resolution of the UN Security Council. They were recognized as one of the parties to the conflict, and as such they are working on the implementation of the Minsk Agreements,” said Lavrov.

He stressed that regarding the absence of progress in the implementation of the Minsk Agreements due to the fault of the Ukrainian authorities, the authorities of the Republics cannot but care about life in these areas.

“And we will help them with that in every possible way,” said Lavrov.
