Poroshenko thanks EU for expanding sanctions against Russia

Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko commented on the expansion of EU sanctions against Russia over the scandal around Siemens.

"I am grateful to the EU Council for the final decision to impose sanctions against Russia for the "precedent of Siemens," he wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, Poroshenko called the expansion of the list of restrictive measures "a deserved response" to Russia and a "powerful signal" that demonstrates the unity of the EU countries.

In early July, Siemens filed a lawsuit against Tekhnopromexport in connection with possible supplies, bypassing the EU sanctions, of Siemens turbines for power plants in the Crimea. In Tekhnopromexport, in response to accusations, they stressed that the turbines were purchased in the secondary market, after which they were modernized by Russian specialists.
