Lugansk Defense: Situation Report, 16.02.2017

The situation in the zone of responsibility of the LPR People's Militia remains tense.

For the past day Ukrainian security officers nine times violated the ceasefire. Our units in the areas of localities: Smeloye, Loginovo, Sokolniki, Kalinovo, Veselogorovka, Kalinovka were fired at. From 120-mm and 82-mm mortars six hundred and thirty shells were launched onto our positions. In addition, fire was conducted from IFVs, grenade launchers, antiaircraft guns and small arms.

Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to violate the conditions of placing military equipment near the contact line provided by the Minsk agreements, thereby increasing the grouping of its units in the "ATO" zone.

  • Near Makarovo locality – there were detected two 122-mm SP artillery mounts Gvozdika and one tank.
  • In Orekhovo locality – there was detected a firing position of one 122-mm SP artillery mount Gvozdika.

Ukrainian command continues to carry out activities to verify the combat readiness of the units, serving on the front line of defense. In this connection, in the zone of the AFU 1st battalion of the 14th brigade's responsibility, near the locality of Schastie, a group of officers from the headquarters of operational and tactical group "Lugansk" arrived. The goal is to check the readiness of the battalion to go down to the area of the locality Maryinka to enhance the AFU 92nd brigade, in which a greater shortage of personnel takes place due to various types of losses and desertions.

Investigation of other cases of non-combat losses in the ranks of the armed forces of Ukraine continues. At this point the command of the AFU 93rd brigade is conducting an administrative investigation into the receipt of a gunshot wound by a brigade's serviceman. The soldier received a wound as a result of careless handling of weapons in a state of extreme intoxication. The fact is carefully concealed from the superior command.

The LPR People's Militia does not impair vigilance, paying increased attention to the security of the Republic, in the framework of which the units' personnel constantly undergo combat trainings, during which they improve skills of conducting defensive operations.

I also want to say that yesterday's talks of the Tripartite Contact Group in Minsk again raised the issue of disengagement of forces and means on one of the previously specified areas near Stanitsa Luganskaya. We have repeatedly stated and we want to repeat that we are ready to withdraw forces and means on this site at any time. We adhere to the Minsk agreements and ready to implement them.
