Lugansk Defense: Situation Report, 05/18/2017

The situation in the responsibility zone of the LPR People's Militia underwent no essential changes and remains tense.

Over the past day, the enemy committed seven violations of the ceasefire.

Our units' positions near the localities of Sokolniki, Kalinovo, Frunze and Kalinovka were shelled. When attacking, the AFU used mortars of 82-mm calibre, IFV-2, antitank guided missiles, recoilless antitank guns, and small arms. In total, 287 projectiles and shells were launched onto the Republic's territory. No casualties reported among the LPR People's Militia personnel.

Today, the Ukrainian party has once again failed to comply with the conditions for the implementation of the Framework Agreement for the disengagement of forces and facilities in the 1st sector, in the Stanitsa Luganskaya area. All the requirements of this agreement have been observed on the part of the LPR People's Militia. We are still ready for the parties' disengagement, but this will happen only simultaneously.

The moral and psychological state of the AFU personnel serving in the armed conflict zone remains low. According to our reconnaissance, non-combat casualties still happen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Thus, the command of the 24th AFU brigade is holding an administrative investigation into the fact of the gunshot wound received by a serviceman of one of the brigade's units in Popasnaya village. A soldier was wounded due to careless handling of weapons in a state of strong alcohol intoxication. The fact is being carefully concealed from the supreme command.

Also, Ukraine continues concealing from the international observers the presence of prohibited weapons and equipment near the contact line. In their reports, representatives of the OSCE Mission have for a long time recorded a restriction of observers' access to the areas of Popasnaya, Katerinovka, Zolotoye, Stanitsa Luganskaya and Schastie localities. These are the particular localities where we have repeatedly detected a concentration of enemy equipment. At that, according to our information, the 'ATO' command instructed the AFU units to restrict the OSCE SMM representatives' access to military facilities of the Ukrainian army in order to conceal the facts of prohibited weapons' presence there. As a recommendation, commanders were encouraged to mislead international observers by reporting false information about the danger on the route. Military will be punished for letting the Mission's representatives in the areas where prohibited weapons are present.

The LPR People's Militia does not relax vigilance and sets the Republic's security as a priority.
