The Day of the City of Lugansk was marked on September 9. Mass events comprised concerts in the city parks, handicraft exhibitions at which local craftsmen presented their works with depicted views of the city, the beauty contest Miss Lugansk 2017, the winner of which became eighteen-year-old student of the Lugansk National University named after Shevchenko, Viktoria Goryachkina, and many other festivities.

In the Lugansk city-centre, in the square in front of the church, a ball of newlyweds was held in honour of the icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness." The Head of the Republic Igor Plotnitsky and the city administration head Manolis Pilava came to congratulate the newlyweds. Couples were presented memorable gifts from the LPR leadership: icons and blankets.

In the evening a festive concert was held at the Teatralnaya Square, where Russian singers Anton Zatsepin, Valentina Legkostupova, Andrei Grizly, Katya Lel and Irakli performed.

The LPR Minister of Culture Oksana Kokotkina presented the guests from Russia with letters of gratitude "for their personal contribution to the strengthening of creative relations between the Russian Federation and the Lugansk People's Republic", as well as memorable gifts.

According to Kokotkina, about 17 thousand people gathered at the concert in the square. The concert was followed by a grandiose fireworks show, which, according to local media, lasted 10 minutes.
