More than 200 coal miners remained underground in the Kurakhovskaya mine due to power outages in the Kiev-controlled territory of the Donetsk region, reported the Chairman of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine Mikhail Volynets.
"On December 6 at 10.00 (11.00 Moscow time), the regional electricity network organization cut off power supply to the Kurakhovskaya coal mine," Volynets wrote on his Facebook.
According to the Trade Union Chairman, 220 people remained under the ground, trying to get out to the surface through emergency exits.
"That is, miners need to walk about 4 km in underground workings and wash themselves in ice-cold water," Volynets said.
Volynets added that the Miners' Union was taking all the urgent measures to resume the electricity supply to the coal mine.
