Journalist National Union: Seven attacks on journalists registered in Ukraine over month

Journalist National Union in Ukraine registered seven attacks on media employees in July, Organization Press-Service reported on Monday.

"Seven incidents involving the use of physical force against journalists were recorded in July of 2017," says the statement.

Incidents occurred, in particular, in Kiev, Vinnitsa, Nikolayev, Krivoy Rog, the Zhytomir region, Cherkassy and in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk region.

The majority of the victims are TV men or journalists of online media.

According to the victims themselves, all these cases are related to the performance of their professional duties.

"Beating of journalists when performing duties is unacceptable and should receive prompt response from law enforcement agencies," said the chairman of the National Union Sergei Tomilenko.

The organization is convinced that the situation with the physical security of journalists is one of the most acute problems, and the law enforcement bodies of Ukraine do not always properly respond to relevant incidents.
