Germany against negotiations with DPR, LPR on UN peacekeepers

The German government opposes the involvement of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics' authorities in discussing the terms of deployment of peacekeepers in Donbass.

"It is not clear for what reason the Donbass militia should have the right to vote when discussing the fate of the mission on the territory of sovereign Ukraine. This would be an unacceptable overstatement of the significance of the republics' authorities," said Demmer, the deputy official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers.

As the representative of the Foreign Ministry of Germany Schaefer said, he could not recall such precedents. According to him, the FRG will together with France, as members of the Normandy process, study and compare the positions of both Kiev and Moscow on this issue.

"Together with France, we will intensively study the proposal of Ukraine, its doubts about the Russian initiative," he said.

The government of Germany supported the idea of sending UN peacekeepers to Donbass. Notably, the Foreign Ministry of Germany previously saw in Putin's proposal for peacekeepers an option for lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation.
