EU insists on social payments renewal to Donbass residents

The European Union urges Ukraine to develop an approach to payments of social assistance to the population of the Donbass. Residents of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions should fully receive pensions and all social payments without any requirements, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli said on December 4.

"Ukraine should develop an inclusive approach to the payment of social assistance to the population residing in the temporarily uncontrolled territories of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions," Mingarelli stated the EU's position on this issue. According to him, "this means that all people who are entitled to receive pensions and other social benefits must receive them without any requirements."

Previously, the United States also demanded that Ukraine resume social payments to the Donbass residents. In particular, this position was stated by the US ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, who also spoke about those "people living in the territory out of the government's control."

Payments of pensions and social benefits to residents of the Donbass Republic's territories were suspended by the Cabinet decision of November 7, 2014, providing for their resumption after the regions return under the control of the Ukrainian authorities [the bloody Kiev regime – ed.]
