DPR watches out for Kiev provocations due to US visit to Donbass

The Representation of the Donetsk People's Republic to the Joint Centre for Control and Coordinating the ceasefire in Donbass is concerned about possible provocations by the Ukrainian forces during the visit of the US inspection team to Donbass.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry of Ukraine said that this week, military experts from the United States, Canada and Denmark would visit Donbass to monitor the military and political situation.

"We do not exclude provocations by the Ukrainian forces, including bombardments of the territory of the Republic and the AFU-controlled areas to discredit the Republics and accusations of violating the Minsk agreements," a DPR representative to the JCCC said.

According to him, this may be due to Kiev's attempts to influence the US decision to supply arms to Ukraine.

"Do not forget about Kiev's interest in the supply of lethal weapons, a decision on which the United States has not yet taken, so during the visit of the US inspectorate to Donbass they may try to ‘justify’ the need to provide them with military assistance and the introduction of peacekeepers, by provocations against the Republic," the official said.

He also added that an increase in the number of shelling by the Ukrainian forces had been previously recorded during any negotiations on the Donbass issue.

"In addition to the visit of the US inspection team to Donbass, this week there will be another meeting in Minsk, and a meeting of the presidential aide Vladislav Surkov and the US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker has taken place already, and we have repeatedly recorded an increase in the number of bombardments by the AFU on the eve or during such visits, negotiations and important meetings on the situation in Donbass," the DPR representative to the JCCC said.
