Donetsk Defense: Situation Report, 18.02.2016

The situation in the Donetsk People's Republic remains tense.

Shellings from the AFU positions won’t stop. The enemy continues shelling districts of the Republic’s localities: Zaitsevo, Golmovsky, Krasny Partizan, Dolomitnoye, Shirokaya Balka, Ozeryanovka, Mikhailovka, Spartak, Yasinovataya, Yakovlevka, Zhabichevo, Vasilievka, Krutaya Balka, Alexandrovka, Styla, Dokuchayevsk, Naberezhnoye, Petrovskoye, Sakhanka, Leninskoye, Kominternovo, the area of the Airport and the Petrovsky district of Donetsk.

Over the past 24 hours the Armed Forces of Ukraine shelled the DPR territory 1,980 times. Among this shelling number heavy artillery was applied – 100 times, tanks – 24 times, mortars of various calibre – 547 times, IFV arms – 197 times, anti-aircraft mounts, grenade launchers and small arms – 1,112 times.

As a result of the incessant shelling by Ukrainian army, a gas pipeline near the locality of Yasinovataya was damaged. When enemy's shelling of our positions, one soldier of the DPR army died.

I draw your attention that today, as a result of Ukrainian shelling with artillery of 152-mm caliber near Spartak locality, the DPR Armed Forces units had to terminate the work of a field kitchen, which was deployed to provide hot meals to the locals, who are constantly suffering from AFU attacks. Thus, this fact testifies non-fulfillment of AFU command's obligations to withdraw heavy weapons, as well as demonstrates the intention of the Ukrainian security officials to keep under constant fire peaceful residential districts of republican localities to exclude the provision of humanitarian aid to the inhabitants from our divisions.

Our reconnaissance continues detecting the presence of forbidden enemy arms near the contact line:

- Near Granitnoye (0,5 km to the contact line) – there was detected one self-propelled gun Nona-S.

These facts handed over to representatives of the OSCE SMM, which confirm the gross violations by the AFU of the Minsk Agreements.

According to our intelligence, Ukrainian military command was tasked to aggravate the situation on the contact line in the period up to 21 February. The purpose of aggravation is to restrain nationalist units in the 'ATO' zone and deprive them of the opportunity to go down to support the mass riots against the current Ukrainian authorities.

According to the organizers of the ‘peaceful’ protests, they intend to engage the nationalist forces, 'ATO' veterans and combat units, which are at the forefront. In this regard, the Ukrainian authorities need to keep them at all costs in a combat zone.

In addition, our intelligence has received information about the intention of the enemy to strengthen the blockade of Donbass. In particular, units of nationalist battalions were given the task to conduct attacks on vital facilities and infrastructure of all localities near the frontline. Attacks on boiler-houses, power lines, gas pipes and roads between the localities confirm this fact. There is also information that the enemy in the near future will try to disrupt the system of communication between the inhabitants of the Republic and the residents of the territories controlled by the AFU. All these actions are aimed at weakening of trade, economic and family ties between the residents of Donbass, and also exception of obtaining the truth by Ukrainians about the crimes of the AFU and radical nationalists against peaceful inhabitants of the Republic.

Currently the DPR Armed Forces units' sniper pairs and special forces units undergo trainings to combat the enemy's DRG. We are ready for any development of the situation, but above all we are committed to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, as opposed to the current Ukrainian authorities that initiated and mired in a civil war on their territory.
