Donetsk Defense: Situation Report, 11/18/2017

The situation on the contact line remains tense.

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy used mortars, various grenade launchers, and small arms. 61 mortar shells of 120-mm and 82-mm calibres were launched on 11 localities and the surrounding areas.

In the Mariupol direction, AFU units launched 132 mortar shells of 120-mm and 82-mm calibres on four settlements.

In the Gorlovka direction, the areas of four localities were targeted with 12 mortar shells of 120-mm and 82-mm calibres.

In total, over the past 24 hours, 37 violations of the ceasefire regime by the Ukrainian Armed Forces were recorded.

Our reconnaissance has revealed the location of the company from among the 8th separate battalion of the "Ukrainian Volunteer Army" in the settlement of Chernenko near Mariupol.

Yesterday's bombardment of Bezymennoye settlement, which resulted in a rupture of 33 120-mm and 41 82-mm mortar shells near civilian quarters, was conducted by the personnel of the company of an illegal armed group in Ukraine, often acting against the will of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian authorities.

Our reconnaissance continues revealing enemy losses in personnel and military equipment.

So, yesterday at 18 o'clock, during the transportation of personnel of the 10 separate mechanised infantry battalion of the 59 separate mechanised infantry brigade from a position to a position, three kilometers northeast to Pavlopol locality, an armoured personnel carrier blew up on its mine. One serviceman died and three were wounded. To evacuate the dead and wounded, the enemy attracted additional forces and resources, including engineering units that cleared the area. At the same time, in order to divert attention from the evacuation activities, the servicemen of the 10th battalion of the 59th brigade, in violation of the Minsk agreements, used 82-mm mortars and small arms against the DPR Armed Forces' positions.

It is worth noting that our units did not open reprisal fire and allowed the enemy to evacuate their dead and wounded without hindrance, received as a result of the negligence of the commander of the 10th battalion of the 59 brigade.

In addition, yesterday, personnel losses in the 25 separate airborne brigade of the AFU were revealed. Thus, as a result of a head-on collision between an armoured personnel carrier and a KRAZ truck carrying personnel in the vicinity of Marinovka settlement, three Ukrainian soldiers received heavy injuries. After preliminary investigation, it is established that the driver of KRAZ was in a state of intoxication.

Thus, we see that the majority of casualties in the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces occur through the fault of commanders who have lost control over their personnel or have committed a gross violation of the established security measures.

Our reconnaissance keeps on receiving data on corruption in the ranks of the AFU. In particular, yesterday, after the receipt of a monetary allowance by the 28 separate mechanised brigade's servicemen, stationed in the vicinity of the settlement Volnovakha, according to the decision of one of the brigade officers Major Zolotukhin, the money was collected from the personnel of the howitzer self-propelled artillery battalion allegedly for the needs of the commander of the 18th separate mechanised battalion Colonel Polovets. In particular, according to Major Zolotukhin, Colonel Polovets had a disaster in the family, and for this he needed help. However, servicemen, from whom money was collected in the amount of 700 hryvnia, found that this fact is not true.

Most likely, in order to receive illegal monetary profits, Major Zolotukhin, with the call sign "Tomograf", deceived his subordinates, or conspired with the commander of the 18th battalion. Also, the military do not exclude the version that Colonel Polovets decided to cash in on the fighters of the neighbouring unit, and for this he deceived Zolotukhin.
