Donetsk Defense: Situation Report, 09/20/2017

A delegation of the Parliamentary Committee on the Ukraine-EU Association arrived at the temporarily Ukraine-occupied territory of Avdeyevka yesterday.

In order to demonstrate the complex operational situation in the near-front locality of Avdeyevka in anticipation of the Tripartite Contact Group meeting in Minsk, the Kiev leadership decided to launch artillery 'fireworks' onto the Republic's territory in honour of their European partners' arrival, thus trying to provoke the DPR Armed Forces into opening return fire.

38 violations of the ceasefire regime from the Ukrainian Armed Forces' positions were recorded over the past 24 hours.

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy used artillery, mortars, weapons of infantry fighting vehicles and armoured personnel carriers, various grenade launchers, and small arms. 12 localities' adjuсent areas were targeted with 14 artillery projectiles of 122 and 152-mm calibres, 29 mortar shells of 120-mm calibre and 93 of 82-mm.

A gas pipeline was damaged in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk at Chernogorskaya St., 9.

In the Mariupol direction, areas of the localities of Leniskoye, Kominternovo and Tavricheskoye underwent shelling with grenade launchers and small arms.

In the Gorlovka direction, areas of the localities of Gorlovka, Zaitsevo and Verkhnetoretskoye were fired at with grenade launchers and small arms.

According to our sources, a reservists' assembly is being held at the range of the 79th air-assault brigade, under the command of the war criminal Shandar, aiming at restoring the combat efficiency of the brigade.

At the same time, the servicemen participating in the assembly are extremely dissatisfied with the soulless attitude of the command staff and the organization.

60 percent of personnel are not provided with ordnance. Also, judging by the numerous complaints of reservists, the use of overdue food products is noted, which led to poisonings among personnel.

The training is reduced to the use of reservists as handymen. The trainees are involved in demining unexploded ordnance, despite the lack of special training.

For the entire period of the genocide of the Donbass peaceful population, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have repeatedly recruited persons having a criminal past to participate in the fighting. According to our reconnaissance, the AFU command applies a new scheme to increase the number of personnel in the so-called 'ATO' zone.

Soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who had committed offenses for which they are facing criminal liability have become the new replenishment source.

Thus, for example, soldier Antonyuk Roman Olegovich, detained in the Khmelnitsky region for drugs possession and now serving on call, and senior soldier Baida Vladimir Alekseyevich, who was to face a criminal term for the theft of ammunition from a military unit in the Dnipropetrovsk region, were sent to the zone of military operations as so-called 'volunteers.'

Poroshenko brags about the new professional army of Ukraine in each of his statements. According to him, it is one of the strongest on the continent. But what kind of professionalism can be spoken about if forward units are manned by criminals. Such a contingent significantly reduces the moral and psychological state of servicemen of these units, turning battalions and brigades into ordinary criminal groups.
