Donetsk Defense: Situation Report, 03/20/2017

The situation in the Donetsk People's Republic, despite the reduction in the intensity of shellings by Ukrainian artillery, remains tense.

Over the past 24 hours from the Armed Forces of Ukraine there were 39 occasions of violations. The following localities underwent the most intense fire activity, where the enemy resorted to weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreements: Yasinovataya, Yakovlevka, Dokuchaevsk, Kominternovo, Besymennoye, Leninskoye, Sakhanka, Spartak, the airport area and the Petrovsky district of Donetsk. In total, thirteen localities of the Republic underwent shellings of the Ukrainian Armed Forces; the AFU applied heavy artillery of 152-mm and 122-mm calibre, tanks, mortars of 120-mm and 82-mm calibre, as well as IFV and AVV weapons, antiaircraft guns, grenade launchers and small arms.

As a result of AFU fire, two residential houses in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk at the addresses Lyotchikov Street, 41 and Lazo Street, 1 have been damaged.

When the enemy fired at our positions, one soldier of the People’s Militia was wounded.

According to our reconnaissance, a group of officers from the management of the troops of radiation, chemical and biological protection of the Ukrainian Armed Forces arrived in Dzerzhinsk locality with strength of up to 10 people. The purpose of the group's work is to assess possible violations in the operation of the phenolic plant premises, since the Armed Forces' units are located on its territory, together with equipment and ammunition.

We continue to record noncombat losses among the servicemen of the AFU. So, in the area of Dzerzhinsk locality, in the 72 separate mechanized brigade, as a result of armed conflict with nationalist battalions, four soldiers perished. In addition, in the 3rd battalion of the 80 separate assault brigade, which is located in the responsibility zone of the 72 brigade, three servicemen were injured. A turf war of control zones of smuggling flows caused skirmishes. These facts are hidden from the public, so as not to discredit the military command.

Our units continue to engage in combat training. In particular, trainings are conducted to place units in the highest operational readiness, as well as training with units of special forces to counter the enemy's DRG.
