Contact Group agrees on a ceasefire in Donbass from August 25 midnight

During the current round of negotiations in Minsk, participants of the Contact Group for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbass agreed upon the ceasefire coming into effect before the new academic year, stated by the head of the DPR delegation to the Belarusian capital, the People's Council Denis Chairman, Pushilin.

"In the view of the upcoming the academic year, the Contact Group agreed and supported the regime of a sustainable and comprehensive ceasefire on the contact line of the parties in Donbass starting from midnight on August 25," Pushilin's statement says.

In this regard, the head of the delegation expressed hope that the new agreement would contribute to the settlement of the situation in the region, and at that help to resolve political issues.

"The Donetsk People's Republic, for its part, is ready to do its utmost to comply with the agreements. The children of Donbass, on whatever side of the contact line they live, should be able to go to school in silence and peace," the parliament speaker summed up.

Let us recall that the previous agreement on the ceasefire and the observance of the 'silence regime' in Donbass was reached by the Contact Group members on June 21 this year in Minsk. Before that, about a dozen armistice agreements were agreed upon, but none of them was fully respected. In most cases, Ukrainian servicemen grossly violated the 'silence regime' immediately after its formal entry into force.
