The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine since the beginning of 2017 recorded 85 cases of beating media representatives, five of them in November, the union's press service said on Monday.
"Since the beginning of the year (11 months), 85 cases of physical aggression against journalists have been recorded," the statement said.
The press service noted that in November five journalists had been beaten. According to the union, incidents occurred in Kiev, Nikolaev, in the Lvov region and Chernovtsy.
In recent years several journalists have been killed in Ukraine, including Oles Buzina. Also in the summer of this year, Ukrainian law enforcers opened a criminal case against Igor Guzhva, editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian Internet publication "Country.ua", on suspicion of extortion and conducted a search in the editorial office of the newspaper "Vesti" in Kiev, citing the investigation of the case against the Ex-Minister of Inland Revenue Alexander Klimenko. In 2014, the photographer of the MIA "Russia Today" Andrey Stenin, the staff of the VGTRK Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, the operator of the First Channel Anatoly Klyan, died in the Donbass.
