From May 20 Ukraine bans transit through its territory of food cargoes bound for Transnistria. As the presidential press service of the Moldovan Transdniestrian Republic reports, Kiev's decision was announced at an emergency meeting of the Transnistrian Security Council convened by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky.
The Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the PMR Yefimiy Koval said that the day before the Ministry of Agriculture received a letter from the State Service of Ukraine on food safety and consumer protection. It informs about the ban on the transit of goods to Transnistria through the territory of Ukraine.
Given the external food dependence of Transnistria, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture assessed the situation extremely negatively, noting that "the decision of Ukraine will negatively affect the food supply of the republic."
"Given our dependence on external food producers, the problem is very serious," the minister said. According to him, the ban can affect not only goods that come through the territory of Ukraine in transit, but also the actual Ukrainian food products produced on its territory.
