The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) is considering the possibility of opening patrol bases in Donbass near the border with Russia, the Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine, Alexander Hug, stated on Friday, March 30, when speaking to reporters at a video press briefing.
"The Special Monitoring Mission plans to expand its presence both on the contact line and in the distance from it. In particular, we plan to open advanced patrol bases near the border with the Russian Federation," Hug said.
He suggested that the patrol bases of the mission could be established in Novoazovsk or Amvrosiyevka in the south and east of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
On Thursday, March 29, at a briefing in Donetsk Alexander Hug on behalf of the OSCE Mission welcomed the introduction of the "Easter truce" in Donbass, noting that the SMM will continue to monitor compliance with the ceasefire.
