OSCE to discuss Russian JCCC officers' return to Donbass

The OSCE is interested in considering the issue of the return of Russian officers-observers of the Joint Control and Coordination Center to Ukraine, Secretary General Thomas Greminger told reporters after talks with Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu.

"This is an important problem, and it was discussed during the meeting. Russia should also participate in this issue – it should be a bilateral dialogue," the secretary general said.

According to him, the return of officers to Ukraine can be brought to the table.

In mid-December, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the Russian side ceased activities within the JCCC. The ministry recalled that the JCCC had faced serious difficulties due to the position of the Ukrainian authorities. Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president's press secretary, said that the Kremlin would allow for the Russian officers' return to the JCCC if Kiev ceased provocative actions against them and created conditions for them to work.

The leaders of the Normandy Quartet countries – Germany and France – have already demanded that Russian officers return to the JCCC.
