Number of malfunctions at Ukraine's NPPs sharply increased

Malfunctioning in the work of nuclear power plants in Ukraine in 2017 amounted to 17 cases, compared to 12 cases a year earlier. This was reported on Friday by the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of the country.

"In 2017 there were 17 violations in the work of Ukrainian NPPs, which is the largest number in the last 7 years," the regulator said on Facebook.

At the same time, according to the regulator, "during 2008-2017, no violations were recorded at Ukrainian NPPs, which would lead to exposure of personnel or the release/discharge of radioactive substances into the environment above the regulatory values."

In Ukraine, there are four nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 1,835 MW (Zaporizhia, Rivne, South Ukraine and Khmelnitskiy).
