Miners go on strike in Volyn region of Ukraine

Miners of one of the mines in the Volyn region of Ukraine went on strike because of wage arrears, they refused to go down the mine on Wednesday, the head of the Independent Trade Union of Ukrainian Miners, Mikhail Volynets states. 

"This morning, the miners of the first shift of the Novovolynskaya mine No. 9 refused to go down the mine, they are demanding that they will be paid off their wage arrears, which were not paid for the month of February," Volynets wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, according to him, in March the miners of this mine won coal for 15.6 million hryvnia (about 600 thousand dollars), and the monthly wage fund is 8 million hryvnia (about 307 thousand dollars), and the leadership can’t explain where they spent means earned by the miners.

Mine No. 9 Novovolynskaya is a state enterprise Volynugol and is located in Novovolynsk, Volyn Region.
