Donetsk Defense: Situation Report, 04/25/2017

Over the past day, there were registered 30 occasions of ceasefire violations by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Republic’s territory was shelled with mortars, grenade launchers, infantry fighting vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, and small arms.

61 mortar shells of 82mm and 120mm calibre and 220 ammos from various types of grenade launchers were launched onto the areas of Krutaya Balka, Yasinovataya, Spartak and the former Donetsk airport from the positions of the 72nd separate mechanized AFU brigade.

The Petrovsky district of Donetsk was underwent a shelling from the positions of the 92nd separate mechanized brigade. The enemy launched 13 mortar shells of 82mm calibre and 90 ammos from portable and automatic grenade launchers.

In addition, war criminals from the 53rd, 30th separate mechanized brigades, 25th airborne brigade and 36th separate marine brigade shelled the areas of Zaitsevo, Gorlovka, Ozeryanovka, Kominternovo, Sakhanka and Leninskoye localities with small arms.

One residential house in Zaitsevo locality on Latsis Street, 36, sustained damage, the Republic’s territory having been shelled by the AFU.

As a result of a mortar shelling of the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, two civilians were wounded: Butenko Alexander Nikolayevich, born in 1955, and Butenko Svetlana Vladimirovna, born in 1957.

Our sources detected the arrival of military instructors from the United States to the units’ bases located in the so-called ‘ATO’ zone with a view to participate in the inspection of the earlier transferred military property.

Our reconnaissance established that this was not the only goal of the commission's arrival. Thus, in the 92nd separate mechanized brigade, the readiness for combat operations is being verified, as well as the results of the earlier arrived military instructors’ work in this brigade.

At that, in one of inner circles of Ukraine’s military and political authorities, one of the versions of such an unexpected inspection is being voiced: data preparation for the decision on lethal weapons’ allocation to Ukraine.

But, preliminary conclusions of the commission's work are already clear, as the US reduces Ukraine's financing by more than 3 times, according to this day’s reports in Western media.

According to a source in the Military Law Enforcement Service of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, close to the entourage of the AFU Supreme Council’s Main Directorate Chief, Major-General Krishtun I.L., it became known that in March 2017 the Military Law and Order Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in conjunction with military commissars, representatives of Ukraine’s National Police, held activities on searching for the servicemen who had self-willedally left their military units.

At the beginning of large-scale activities on the search, there were registered 8,377 servicemen, absent without leave. By service branches there was the following list:

1. Ground troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – 5,589 (1631 found)

2. Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – 637 (185)

3. Airborne troops – 1,655 (229 found)

4. Others – 496 (131 found)

Military units of the 54th separate mechanized brigade, 53rd separate brigade, 44th separate air brigade, 36th separate marine brigade, 223rd flak missile regiment, 79th separate air assault brigade, 80th separate air mobile brigade, and the 95th air assault brigade are leading the rating by the number of voluntarily escaped soldiers. The facts of desertion were also noted in such elite units as the 8th separate special purpose unit – eight soldiers, 73rd operational special purpose centre – four soldiers.

The largest number of servicemen, absent without leave, is in the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Donetsk region and makes 658 servicemen, in Nikolayev – 418, in Lugansk – 381, in Dnepropetrovsk – 351, Kiev – 252. The Chernigov region rounds out the top list of the number of self-willedally escaped soldiers, it has 42 run-aways.

Thus, we can see the reluctance of the population not only to fight against its own people, but to serve in the army of murderers either. The given figures are official ones and one can only guess the scale of the catastrophic state of the AFU manning.

The following facts, namely: frequent inspections of the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies by Western partners, the reduction of funding and problems with staffing indicate the only thing: Western curators observe a halt in development and further futility of investing money in the Ukrainian army.
