Deputy Head of OSCE mission Hug announced the launch of observers’ base in Debaltsevo

Debaltsevo. The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission agreed the deployment of a base in Debaltsevo with the local authorities; the observers would spend the next night in the town. It was reported by Alexander Hug, the Deputy Head of the Mission.

‘We discussed the opening of the OSCE base in Debaltsevo and how it will work. We have reached a mutual understanding. The population should be given an opportunity to return to peaceful life. After this visit we will visit the socially important infrastructure and we will already spend this night in Debaltsevo,’ said the representative of the international organisation after the meeting with the Head of the Debaltsevo town Administration Alexey Granovsky.

According to Hug, the base in Debaltsevo would be the similar by its functions to that opened in Gorlovka the day before. ‘Yes, that is our intention, to start a base of patrolling here, in Debaltsevo,’ said the deputy Head of the Mission.

Earlier, in late October, the deputy Head of the OSCE SMM informed that the Special Monitoring Mission of the OSCE would increase its presence in the Donetsk People’s Republic and open bases of advance patrolling in addition to those already existing in Donetsk, including in Gorlovka nad Debaltsevo.
